Valentino

You have no idea how hard it was to keep myself shut in the fucking broom cupboard. The dirty old mop smelt like stale sweat and vomit making me heave, I regretted the scrambled eggs I had this morning. The whole time cooped up in there I had to fight the urge to run out and smack him straight in the face again, how dare he speak to Alexander like that?

I’m sure I was well on my way to a heart attack with the pace it was beating and the adrenalin pumping through me before all of a sudden my heart stopped dead. He’s in love with me, he said it again. I even pinched myself to make sure I was still alive and had to remind myself to breath. It still feels strange and still hits me to the core. Regaining my breath I watched through the crack in the door as they both left. Stepping out I took in some much needed fresh air. I hit the gym like never before, I worked every station and ran fifteen miles.

Rubbing the towel over my head and picking up a bottle of water, I walk on very shaky legs to the showers. Allowing the hot water to rain over me, I tip my head back allowing it to penetrate my skin. My muscles start to relax and my mind starts to wonder. I need to get hold of Alexander and talk to him about what has happened and how I’m feeling. Even Mitch can see through the bullshit and fake disinterest I put up. Is it love? I’m not sure, I’ve never felt love from anyone, but whatever it is I’m sure it’s damn close. Perhaps I need to tell him the truth. I grab onto the side of the cubicle to steady myself, one step at a time Valentino, one step at a time.

Throwing my bag over my shoulder I hear my phone ringing. Pulling it out of my pocket I frown. What does she want? Don’t tell me he saw me and she’s ringing to give me a bollocking. Again.

“Ciao,” I answer as cheery as I can.

“Val, where are you?”

“Um…at the gym, why?” I ask wearily, I just know it’s coming.

“Oh, are you free this afternoon? I need you. I have to go shopping for the weekend birthday trip and we need wine. Alex has already told me I’d better not buy Lambrini,” she giggles.

Relief floods me, I was just waiting for Jen to give me a mouthful on smacking Mitch again. “I’m glad he did. I wouldn’t even grace my lips with such shit,” I laugh.

“You’re such a wine snob Val. So you’ll come help me?” she asks “Please?” She puts on a childish whine and I can’t help the smile that splits my face.

I can just picture her face looking up at me from under her lashes. A move that works with Alexander every time, I relent. “Alright, alright, stop with the whining, where and when?”

“Yay, twenty minutes at Sainsburys?”

“Okay I’ll leave now.
